Welcome to 5th grade! I am Miss Solomon and I am very excited to be your child‚s teacher. I look forward to meeting you on Thursday, August 7th in Room 514 from 5:00-6:00 pm. School starts on Monday, August 11th.
We will be covering many topics this year in 5th grade. The reading standards will focus on comprehension in a variety of genres and vocabulary. In writing we will use the 6 Traits model for scoring as we cover the writing process, complete a variety of writing applications across the curriculum, and utilize basic grammar. This year we have adopted a new math program called Envisions which is based on the Arizona State Standards for Math. Science has 3 main areas of focus which are life science, physical science, and earth science. Social Studies standards focus on American History /Government, and Geography. More information will be given out at Curriculum Night, which is scheduled for Monday, August 18th from 5:00-6:00 pm in our classroom.
A very important part of success in 5th grade is homework. We will need your help to reinforce daily lessons at home. Assigned homework is important for strengthening basic skills and will be assigned nightly. Students are also expected to read at least 20 minutes outside of school daily.
